Homemade Cheesy Broccoli Steak Bowl

Steak

  • 400g steak (sirloin, ribeye, or flank)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika

Broccoli

  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • Salt to taste

Base (Choose One)

  • 2 cups cooked rice
  • or roasted potatoes
  • or mashed potatoes

Cheese Sauce

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 150g cheddar cheese (shredded)
  • Salt and pepper
  • Optional: pinch of chili flakes

Instructions

1. Cook the Steak

  1. Season steak with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
  2. Heat oil in a pan over medium-high heat.
  3. Sear steak 3–5 minutes per side (depending on thickness).
  4. Let rest, then slice into strips.

2. Cook the Broccoli

  1. Steam or sauté broccoli until tender but still bright green.
  2. Toss with butter and a pinch of salt.

3. Make the Cheese Sauce

  1. Melt butter in a saucepan.
  2. Whisk in flour and cook for 1–2 minutes.
  3. Slowly add milk, whisking continuously.
  4. Cook until thickened.
  5. Stir in cheese until melted and smooth.
  6. Season to taste.

4. Assemble the Bowl

  1. Add your base (rice or potatoes) to a bowl.
  2. Top with sliced steak and broccoli.
  3. Drizzle generously with cheese sauce.
