Pecan Pie Brownies

Step 1: Prepare the Baking Pan

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving extra paper hanging over the sides so the brownies can be lifted out easily later. Lightly grease the parchment paper with butter or nonstick spray.

Preparing the pan properly helps prevent sticking and makes cutting cleaner brownie squares much easier.

Step 2: Make the Brownie Batter

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth and glossy. Add the eggs one at a time, whisking well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder. Slowly fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients using a rubber spatula. Mix until just combined. Avoid overmixing because it can make the brownies tough instead of soft and fudgy.

Fold in the chocolate chips for extra richness.

Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.

Step 3: Bake the Brownie Base

Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake the brownie layer for 20 minutes.

The brownies should look partially set but not fully baked. This partial bake is important because the brownies will continue cooking after the pecan pie topping is added.

While the brownie layer bakes, prepare the pecan topping.

Step 4: Prepare the Pecan Pie Topping

In a medium bowl, whisk together the corn syrup, brown sugar, eggs, melted butter, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.

Stir in the chopped pecans until evenly coated.

The filling should look glossy and thick. The pecans absorb flavor during baking and create the signature crunchy pecan pie texture on top of the brownies.

Step 5: Add the Topping

Carefully remove the partially baked brownies from the oven.

Slowly pour the pecan pie mixture over the brownie layer. Spread it gently with a spatula to ensure the topping covers the brownies evenly from edge to edge.

Return the pan to the oven.

Step 6: Finish Baking

Bake for another 25 to 30 minutes, or until the pecan topping is set and lightly golden brown.

The center should have a slight jiggle but should not appear liquid. The brownies will continue to firm up as they cool.

Avoid overbaking because the brownie layer can dry out.

Step 7: Cool Completely

Remove the brownies from the oven and place the pan on a cooling rack.

Allow the brownies to cool completely for at least 1 hour before slicing. This step is very important because the pecan topping needs time to set properly.

For extra clean slices, refrigerate the brownies for 30 minutes before cutting.

Lift the brownies from the pan using the parchment paper and cut into squares.
