My neighbor swears this ‘Cheesy Melt Bomb’ is the reason she skips takeout now!

Beef and Macaroni Bake is a comforting dish that combines the heartiness of ground beef with the satisfying texture of macaroni, all topped with a golden, cheesy crust. This dish has its roots in American home cooking, often referred to as a casserole, which became popular in the 1950s. It’s a versatile meal that’s perfect for feeding a family or a crowd, and it’s a great way to use pantry staples. The combination of flavors and textures makes it a perennial favorite, especially during the cooler months when we crave warmth and comfort.
This Beef and Macaroni Bake pairs beautifully with a simple green salad dressed with a light vinaigrette, which provides a refreshing contrast to the richness of the bake. You might also consider serving it with steamed green beans or roasted Brussels sprouts for added color and nutrition. A slice of crusty bread on the side can help round out the meal, perfect for sopping up any extra sauce.

Ingredients
1 pound ground beef
1 onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes, undrained
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil
Salt and pepper to taste
2 cups elbow macaroni
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Directions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain any excess fat.
Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the beef. Cook until the onion is soft and translucent.
Stir in the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes.
Meanwhile, cook the macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Combine the cooked macaroni with the beef and tomato mixture, stirring well to combine.
Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top, followed by the grated Parmesan cheese.
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Let the bake cool for a few minutes before serving.
Variations & Tips
For a spicier version, add a pinch of red pepper flakes or a diced jalapeño to the beef mixture. You can also substitute ground turkey or chicken for the beef for a lighter option. If you prefer a creamier texture, stir in a half cup of sour cream or cream cheese before baking. For a more colorful dish, consider adding chopped bell peppers or mushrooms to the skillet when cooking the onions.
