Using a clean cloth, I began wiping down the interior surfaces. The steam had indeed softened many of the stubborn spots, making it easier to remove them with minimal effort. However, I noticed that some areas, particularly the corners, still required a bit of elbow grease.

However, the hack wasn’t a complete miracle worker. The corners and crevices, where grime tends to accumulate, still had some stubborn residue. These areas required additional scrubbing with a damp cloth to achieve a satisfactory level of cleanliness.

One of the most noticeable benefits of the wet sponge method was the reduction in food odors. The steam and lemon oil combination left behind a fresh, clean scent that replaced the previous smell of burnt popcorn and reheated leftovers.
Despite initial concerns about the sponge burning or creating an unpleasant smell, neither occurred. The sponge was hot, but not scorched, and there was no sign of burning, likely due to it being adequately damp.

After its journey in the microwave, the sponge was significantly hotter but otherwise intact. There was no noticeable deterioration, and it didn’t appear to have lost any structural integrity. This was a relief, as I had worried about potential damage from the microwave’s heat.
The sponge’s condition meant it could be reused for other cleaning tasks around the kitchen, which was an added bonus. However, it’s essential to ensure that sponges used in this manner are thoroughly rinsed and sanitized afterward to prevent any bacterial growth.
