Air Fryer crispy, caramelized twisted bacon sticks

Start by taking each strip of bacon and gently twisting it from one end to the other. Twist tightly enough so it holds its shape but not so tight that it tears. The twisting helps create a crispier texture and a visually appealing finish.

Place the twisted bacon strips on a clean plate while you prepare the seasoning.

Step 2: Make the Caramelized Coating

In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, black pepper, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using). Mix well to create a balanced sweet and spicy blend.

For extra richness, drizzle in the maple syrup and stir until the mixture becomes slightly sticky.

Step 3: Coat the Bacon

Lightly rub or sprinkle the sugar mixture evenly over each twisted bacon strip. Make sure all sides are coated, as this will ensure even caramelization during cooking.

Step 4: Preheat the Air Fryer

Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 3–5 minutes. Preheating ensures even cooking and helps the bacon crisp up quickly.

Step 5: Arrange in Air Fryer Basket

Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray to prevent sticking. Arrange the twisted bacon sticks in a single layer, leaving a bit of space between each piece. Avoid overcrowding, as this can lead to uneven cooking.

Step 6: Air Fry the Bacon

Cook the bacon at 375°F (190°C) for 8–12 minutes.

  • At around 5 minutes, check the bacon and flip each piece using tongs.
  • Continue cooking until the bacon is crispy and the sugar coating is caramelized.

Important Tip: Keep a close eye during the last few minutes, as the sugar can burn quickly.

Step 7: Cool and Crisp

Once done, carefully remove the bacon sticks and place them on a plate lined with paper towels. This helps absorb excess grease and allows the bacon to crisp further as it cools.

Let them rest for 2–3 minutes before serving.
