This indulgent dessert is a Decadent Chocolate Cobbler, a southern-style “magic” cake that creates its own rich, fudgy sauce while baking.
Ingredients
The Batter:
1 cup All-purpose flour
2 tsp Baking powder
¼ tsp Salt
¾ cup Granulated sugar
2 tbsp Unsweetened cocoa powder
½ cup Whole milk
2 tbsp Melted butter
The “Magic” Topping:
½ cup Granulated sugar
½ cup Brown sugar
¼ cup Unsweetened cocoa powder
1 ½ cups Boiling water
Preparation
Prepare the Base: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and 2 tablespoons of cocoa. Stir in the milk and melted butter until smooth.
Layer the Dish: Spread the batter evenly into an 8×8 inch baking dish.
Add the Topping: Mix the remaining sugars and cocoa powder together and sprinkle this mixture evenly over the batter. Do not stir.
The “Magic” Step: Carefully pour the boiling water over the entire surface. Again, do not stir.
Bake: Place in a 175°C (350°F) oven for 30–35 minutes. The cake will rise to the top while a thick chocolate sauce forms underneath.
Serve: Best enjoyed warm, topped with a large scoop of vanilla bean ice cream as shown.
