Ingredients
- 2 boneless beef steaks (ribeye or sirloin)
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
- 2 cups fresh mushrooms (sliced)
- 3 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- ½ cup beef broth
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard (optional)
- 1 tsp fresh thyme (or ½ tsp dried)
- 1 small onion (finely chopped)
- 1 tbsp flour (optional, for thickening)
Instructions
- Season the Steak: Pat steaks dry and season both sides generously with salt and pepper.
- Sear the Steak: Heat oil or butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear steaks for 3–5 minutes per side depending on thickness and desired doneness. Remove and set aside.
- Cook Vegetables: In the same pan, sauté onions until soft, then add garlic and mushrooms. Cook until mushrooms are browned and tender.
- Make the Sauce: Sprinkle flour (if using) and stir well. Add beef broth, scraping up browned bits from the pan. Stir in cream, mustard, and thyme. Simmer until thickened.
- Combine: Return steaks to the pan and spoon sauce over them. Let simmer for 3–5 minutes to absorb flavor.
- Serve: Plate steaks with extra sauce on top. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
